Investing in a New Heating/Cooling System

You should first choose the type of contractor you want to do business with. If the installed price is your major concern, then you will want to do business with "two men and a truck" or "three men and two trucks". They will have practically no overhead and the lowest labor rates. Also, they commonly work out of their home.

However this choice is a short term solution because over the life of your system this choice will end up costing you a great deal more money because of higher utility bills, more repair bills, and possible even a replacement cost.

If "cost of ownership" (the total cost over the life of your system) is more important to you, then you will want to choose an established company, one with a sheet metal shop, an install department, a service department, and an office staff. All of the things necessary to keep you happy and keep your system operating safely and efficiently for the next 15 years or longer.
